Indian IT Companies Deliver Mixed Quarterly Results
Indian IT companies have reported mixed financial performance for the July–September quarter of FY2026–27, with differences in revenue growth, profitability and deal activity emerging across major technology services providers.
Recent results highlighted by Financial Express show that Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), HCLTech and Tech Mahindra recorded year-on-year profit growth, while Wipro reported a decline in net profit despite higher revenue.
The results arrive as technology services companies respond to changing client spending, demand for artificial intelligence solutions and the need to improve operating efficiency. The latest figures suggest that the sector’s performance is becoming increasingly differentiated rather than moving in one direction. (The Financial Express)
TCS Reports Higher Revenue and Profit
TCS reported a net profit of approximately ₹13,884 crore, representing a 15% year-on-year increase. Revenue rose to around ₹73,188 crore, while its total contract value for the quarter reached approximately $9.6 billion.
The company also highlighted business developments involving Porsche AG and Best Buy. These announcements point to opportunities in technology modernisation and AI-related transformation, although announced partnerships and contract values should not automatically be treated as immediate revenue.
For investors, the important questions include whether new contracts translate into revenue at a healthy pace, whether margins remain resilient and whether clients continue to approve large technology projects.
TCS’s results provide evidence of continued demand, but future performance will also depend on client budgets, execution and the timing of project delivery.
HCLTech and Tech Mahindra Show Growth
HCLTech reported quarterly revenue growth of approximately 11.5%, while net income reached ₹5,132 crore, according to the published results summary. The company also reported AI revenue growth and deal bookings of approximately $3.3 billion.
Tech Mahindra recorded a year-on-year increase of 32.7% in consolidated profit to around ₹1,585.6 crore. Revenue from operations rose approximately 15.6% to ₹16,180 crore.
These results indicate that different companies are benefiting from different combinations of deal wins, service demand and operating improvements.
AI is an increasingly important part of the sector’s growth narrative. However, the commercial impact of AI depends on companies securing paying customers, delivering projects successfully and generating revenue that exceeds the cost of developing and implementing these solutions.
Wipro Faces a Different Earnings Picture
Wipro reported a net profit of approximately ₹3,199.7 crore, down 1.9% year-on-year, even as revenue increased by 9.1%, according to the same report.
The difference between revenue and profit growth matters because higher sales do not necessarily produce higher earnings. Employee costs, pricing pressure, project mix and investment in new capabilities can affect profitability.
Investors will therefore look beyond headline revenue figures when assessing the company’s performance. Deal bookings, operating margins, client demand and management guidance will be important indicators of whether profitability can improve in future quarters.
The contrasting results underline why the performance of one IT company should not be treated as a complete measure of the entire industry.

What the Results Mean for India’s Technology Sector
For India’s IT sector, the next phase will depend on demand for digital transformation, cloud services, cybersecurity, data engineering and AI implementation.
Clients may continue investing in projects that reduce costs or improve productivity while postponing discretionary spending elsewhere. This creates opportunities for providers that can demonstrate clear business outcomes, but it can also increase competition over pricing and delivery efficiency.
Investors should monitor constant-currency revenue growth, operating margins, deal wins and hiring trends alongside reported profits.
Outlook
The latest quarterly results show that Indian IT companies are navigating different business conditions. TCS, HCLTech and Tech Mahindra reported stronger earnings, while Wipro’s results highlighted the challenge of converting revenue growth into profit growth.
The sector’s longer-term prospects will depend on client spending, effective AI adoption and companies’ ability to sustain profitable growth.
